Oregon Coast August 2009 - Prologue

Deb is going to Providence, Rhode Island for work. So Max, Zoe and I are going to take a trip along the Oregon Coast up to Cape Disappointment Washington. As with all trips, an ultimate destination is required. For this trip we are going to Cape Disappointment to see the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center.

We will travel on the eastern side of the Sierras on Hwy 395 through Bishop. Then drive through Reno over to the coast, through Susanville and Redding, to just north of Eureka. Then we follow the coast up through Astoria to Cape Disappointment. From Cape Disappointment we will figure out how we will get home. It should be an easy 10 day trip.

The Max, Zoe and I made it home today. It has been a long trip, much longer than I though when we started. But it was fun. We traveled 8,708 miles and traveled through, 2 Territories, 1 Provence, 3 States and crossed the Arctic Circle. We are already planning our next trip – maybe the Oregon coast from Astoria to California.

We dropped Curtis off at his apartment in Seattle this afternoon and took Interstate 5 to Washington Highway 8. Then we drove another 16 miles off the highway to Schafer State Park. Schafer State Park is very and peaceful campground. At this campground we have traveled 7,600 miles in 35 days.

Inuvik, Northwest Territories - Day 34

Monday, June 22, 2009

We back tracked and went Neah Bay. It is a beautiful fishing village and bought the best smoked salmon. Curtis had to knock on the door of the trailer so we could buy the salmon. Later we found a National Park beach that allowed dogs. We hiked down to the ocean and the dogs had a great time playing in the water fetching sticks for Curtis. Tonight we are camped at Staircase Campground on the east side of Olympic National Park.

Inuvik, Northwest Territories - Day 33

Sunday, June 21, 2009

Curtis joined the band today. We picked him up out front of his apartment in Seattle. Then we headed over to Pier 52 to take the ferry to Bainbridge Island. We just made the ferry with only minutes to spare. After a leisure drive around the Olympic Peninsula, taking back roads to the pacific side, we camped at Ozette Campground in the Olympic Peninsula National Park.
